Can you put TVs and computer monitors in a dumpster?

Usually not

Short answer: No. TVs and monitors belong at e-waste recycling, and 15 states plus DC ban them from landfills.

Why

ERCC's landfill-ban list shows disposal bans covering TVs and/or monitors in CA, CT, DC, IL, IN, ME, MN, NC, NJ, NY, OR, PA, RI, SC, VT and WI. In ME and MN the ban covers CRTs only. Massachusetts separately bans cathode ray tubes. Dumpsters.com and Bagster both prohibit electronics.

What to do with them instead

Manufacturer or state e-cycling program, retailer take-back, or a county e-waste drop-off.
