Short answer: Sometimes, often with an extra fee. It depends on your area, and a few states run free mattress recycling instead.
Dumpsters.com says mattresses are allowed only in some locations and may carry extra fees because they need extra handling at the landfill. Bagster lists mattresses as location-specific. Massachusetts has banned mattresses from disposal since Nov 1, 2022, and Rhode Island reports a landfill ban.
In CA, CT, OR and RI, use the free Bye Bye Mattress drop-off network (mattressrecyclingcouncil.org). Elsewhere, try retailer haul-away when buying new, a city bulky-item pickup, or junk removal.
